aww i like this new layout, i think i’ve been to your blog before and this layout is very eye catching.
Wow flying back for school? Sounds like a lot of hassle, but sounds fun at the same time. lol I’ve always wanted to work in a coffee shop as well, even though i am not a coffee drinker..but i do love the smell. ^-^

I, too, love this layout! It seems so personal, you know? Customised, all that. The wood grain background is actually really unique, never seen a wooden background on a site till today. Oh, and something really odd happened just now, though it might be just my touchpad or something. I scrolled down to the footer, and when I wanted to scroll up again, the page magically scrolled down all by itself. Again and again. =P Kinda spooky, but I’m pretty sure it was my fault somehow. Nothing to do with the layout, ’cause I opened a new tab with it, and it’s all fine.

Anyway, omgosh I’m fasting right now, and the image/taste of a warm glass of Milo from a kedai mamak is so … mmmmm. ^^

Mei, I love love so much your new layout OMG. And what have you done with your hair? Nice. =D (sorry, I’m kinda forgetful and tend to skip blogs) A friend of mine thought about opening a cafe too, or rather a Christian cafe with Christian music and a frame of memory verse or two hanging some where around.. Nice. Maybe you can think about it too. =D

I thought about opening a cafe / coffee shop / ice cream store at one point. At the time I had just discovered Gelato and thought it would be great for that type of environment. I also had visions of an acoustic guitar player sitting in a corner and big couches and chairs for people to sit and study or read in.

The name of the place was to involve the word “carrot” and there would be a big, neon carrot outline on the wall somewhere inside. I was thinking “The Funky Carrot” but I don’t know if “funky” is something you’d want in the name of a place serving food.

I really like the layout; it’ll definitely be really cool once all the quirks are smoothed out.

As you know, I work in a bookstore that has a cafe in it and about half of the time, I’m working as a barista. As long as you pick a place for your shop not around a chain and build up your clientele so that you get a lot of regulars, you should be fine. You’d just need to keep good records of how much you usually use so that you don’t end up throwing much away. Learn your product, your customers, and invest in good help and you’ll do fine.

I would definitely suggest that you work in a few different cafes before you start your own, though. You’ll be able to see what works, what doesn’t, etc. while also learning the intricacies of the business.
